A Breath of Fresh Air

The old medina is lovely but there are few trees and altogether too many mopeds and it makes you forget how huge Morocco is.
Once you get outside the city a whole new world opens up.

These shots were taken from a bus heading to my favorite spot - Essouira - where I go pretty much every month - to breathe in the fresh air.
Here we travel through the stony desert and watch the different cloud formations with the horizon in the very far distance.

When we get to the Atlantic coast and look north, we see the treacherous rocks and the mist and the water swirling beneath us.
I think you must be very brave to be a sailor - and, in the olden days when you had to rely on the wind - braver still.

More waves crashing. It's amazing how one can watch natural elements like clouds and water for hours without getting the least bit bored.

A shadow falls on the high walls.

Beaches

25 km North of Essouira is a little village called Moulay Bouzerkyoun where the tomb of a saint overlooks the Atlantic.

Ripples on the sand in Essouira itself.
