At night Djemma ElFna, the big square -- which isn't really square at all -- is turned into a giant barbecue where you can eat meat and fish and eggs and vegetables and buy dried fruit and drink orange juice.
The air is filled with smoke and the delicious smells of cooking.
When you have eaten, you can see all the entertainers and magicians and snake charmers.
How empty the square is in the morning when the pavement is newly washed and few people are up.
Such a difference between night and day!

Just stunning, The contrast from night to day. I have been really enjoying these photos,
Snake charmers.. Its really sad that behind all that glitter nobody is thinking of the poor animals - the snakes - which are prodded, starved and tortured by the 'charmers' to earn some money. Many of the other entertainment - monkey dancing and circus is similarly tragic for me. I did not find your blog to be very simulating.

I just sit and locking at the pictures from Marocko, and the snow is falling outside. I think the both world can be exotic.

I guess I'm a morning person, because I always love Djemma elFna in the morning, I feel like I'm drinking the first juice of the day! But at night hiding in my black djelaba, eating snails is a magical moment :)
This is much like Forodhani in Zanzibar: wide open courtyard by the sea next to the royal palace where tradesmen gather every night to sell food and drinks. It is an amazing place, I miss the island so much. Thanks for posting these pictures!!
