The Beach at Diabat

Dunes and the Atlantic Ocean just south of Essouira.

A good place for surfing and a camel ride on the sand.

A good place for sandcastles and pondering mortality.
Jimi Hendrix supposedly wrote "Castles in the Sand" here.

Our little castle is swirled away by the tide.....

Here in the Pacific Northwest we are used to horses on the beach, cars on the beach, boats on the beach; but camel on the beach is so much cooler!

Yours is the experience I would like to have sometime in my life.
I can feel the peace and tranquility not only in your photos, but in your uncluttered style.

Anymore such adventures coming up for you in the future?

Beautiful place. I wish we had camels in California. I'm sure they're somewhere, but I bet not for riding around town (or the desert).

By the way...

I just wanted to let you know that I am one of your followers and have linked your blog on my blog as a way to direct more traffic to your site.

As a fellow blogger, if you happen to take a look and enjoy my blog, I would appreciate your support as well. By no means do you have to, but it's always nice if you do. :)

Surfing and riding camels! Now that's something you wouldn't see very many places in the world! These photos are amazing. I did not know that about Jimi Hendrix...now I'm going to go listen to that song!

On a vacation to Morocco in 1976 while lodging in the southeastern seaport town of Essaouira one day my Swiss travel companion and I were taken by two young guides for a 2 hours foot walk along a fortified historic beach wall to a remote village called Diabat where, as the boys insisted, Jimi Hendrix had spent some of his precious time while on his 1969 trip to Morocco, most probably being enchanted as we were, too, by a nearby dilapidated historic castle in the sands (which obviously had inspired him there and then to compose that very song of the selfsame title). On arriving at Diabat, then a tiny fisherman's population consisting of a small cluster of whitewashed clay houses with not a single restaurant in place, almost no one was to be spotted there - no kids, no women, no elders - but for one old shag who was lying there in the sun leaned against a hump of dried piled dung, (possibly to cure her rheumatism). Thus, with nobody at all around, by no means were there any further informations to be made available with regards to details of Jimi Hendrix' stay there, as I had hoped for, but for that one proud fat village chicken only who stood there near that dung hill right in the middle of the road of Diabat, most bravely looking the four of us in the eye, as if that bold look in the eye of that bird were to tell us the following: "We well do know who you came to look for out here in our little nest... and I'm telling you that it is my very own chicken mommy who herself has seen exactly that strange wild figure of yours...that you come much too late to look for out here"... We left it at that and returned.
