In the Souks/Suqs

A suq/souk is really just a shop. In Marrakesh there is a whole area
where lots of little shops are all clustered together.
In fact it's a sort of labyrinth of delights.

Many of the little lanes have wood slats in the roof to prevent the sun shining too brightly
and creating wonderful shadows.

So very many different things to see and buy! Jewels and pottery
and metalwork and tea glasses and scarves and baskets......

...but best of all leather slippers that Alladin or Princess Jasmine would envy
in every color and design under the sun......

Once I held a cameleon in my hands in a spice shop...way back in the labyrinth...and I bought a pair of red leather slippers with turned-up toes. I love the markets, and Marrakesh has one paralelled only by Fez...

Oh- I love such markets- I like to have one of these aladin-shoes :-) they are really wonderful!
You are really a master of the light! The photos are as great as ever!

Have a nice week- Ines

This is pretty cool, I must say. I just have a quick concern when looking at the pictures - everything seems to be rather crowded and clustered. Are there any types of fire prevention or even safe fire routes, nearby fire extinguishers?

Also, I would like to say that I am very fond of the photos you are taking and I look forward to keeping updated.

I bought an adorable pair of slipper for my daughter when I was in Marrakech....BUT, there an odd unpleasant odor that I've tried to eliminate with baking soda. Unfortunately, it's not working...any suggestions?

I'm only brave enough to go to the souks about twice a year, even though I've lived here all my life!
Thanks for linking to my little blog by the way, I appreciate it!
Best regards from Marrakesh,
Nora.

The World is an amazing place and once we accept the differences we all have, not to mention many common experiences, well, it should endear us to one another.

Nice pictures! Just wondering, do they also call it a bazaar over there? I know that's what it's called in Iran (where my parents are from) and a few other places.
