Essouira Abstract

This is a post about details........all these photos were taken last week in Essouira
where we slept at the Riad alMadina. right in the middle of town.
We have stayed here off and on for the last ten years.
There were roses in both the fountains in the courtyard.

Essouira is pretty much a blue and white town and the hotel has a super terrace with both sun and shade on the roof.......

The hotel's claim to fame is that Jimi Hendrix stayed here in the late 60's or early 70's when Essouira was an exotic haven for hippies. Many people who were here then do not to have very clear recollections of their visit since they were utterly stoned all the time. All they recall is that it was wonderful.
Ah youth!
(Editorial note: I was not here then.......)

Since then the hotel, and, indeed, the whole town, has had a make-over and is most friendly and comfortable.
In fact, the whole town is a delight.

Chairs.........

a floor.........

In the town square in the late afternoon.......

And, of course, the ubiquitous door/wall combo.......

The colors from this place are gorgeous. Considering the sun and sky, being mostly blue and white makes sense. (What would that make Seattle? Muted green and grey?)

Especially love the roses in the fountains.

It's all so beautiful! Essouria looks like a little slice of heaven! & Wow! The great Jimi Hendrix stayed there! Are you certain that you didn't visit in the 70s also & simply don't remember ;)

The wall/door combo is exquisite!

gorgeous colors, patterns, textures and details everywhere...but those roses in the fountains, what a touch, i'm sure they also smelled just lovely, makes me want to have a tea party.

Tara: You make Seattle seem rather quiet! There are so many roses here which is lovely.
Harriet: My husband was here in 1973 - I promise I wasn't!
Everyone: I think you would all get a kick out of Essouira with its battlements and sunshine. But sometimes there is a howling gale off the ocean and you get totally sandblasted....

Sort of like Santa Cruz or Haight Ashbury in San Francisco, except with better weather and brighter colors. ~grin~

Essouira truly is beautiful and wonderful as seen from your photos. Maybe some day I'll see it with my own eyes....
