Dawn on the Battlements

Looking east at 6 am.
We are on the coast in Essouira. This is taken from the Portuguese fortifications.

A very ancient door.............

...........and an intrepid cat.................

Walking back into town..............

We wanted to go to the beach but the weather was overcast. We ended up going anyway..........see tomorrow's entry.

Wow! What history in those old walls and stairs... Really makes me appreciate the old worlds and also how young America really is...

What I love about Essaouira are the Stars of David carved above the doors of the Jewish houses in the medina, combined with the Portuguese Colonial door frames. So chic, I think.

Dear Aesthete
Sadly the Jewish part of town is in great disrepair......needs lots of work but most interesting.

I love Essaouira! I would love to live there someday. Who knows? : )
I hope you make it to the beach and that it isn't too crazily windy. I know how that it is when the sand pokes your eyes!!
