Open Doors

We are heading back to Marrakech via London.
I hope doors are open to greet us -
like this unusual blue one in the medina.

Or the door to the beer garden in Gueliz - no women allowed.
My friend J. as an 'honorary man' gets to go in.
I never tried since I hate the taste of beer.

This doorway is mysterious and rather sad somehow.

A photo of the inside of the cool (literally rather than metaphorically) cafe that is part of the beer garden.
Drinking beer is done rather privately in Marrakech.

It's interesting (to me) the way Morocco town houses can often look so dour and dilapidated on the outside, but an oasis of colour and light once you get inside, into the patio.

The dappled sunlight..the play of light and shadows...the cool, dim interiors glimpsed for a moment...ah, Morocco, land of endless mystery and beauty!

Your blog is such a jewel. I looked through all of your pictures (ALL) --- I found it through Sukipoet, who posts on another blog I frequent … and I feel so blessed. Marrakesh has such a special place in my heart, I was there four years ago and it was the first place I have ever been in the world where you are forced to be in the “now”. And I brought that gift home with me and have been thankful ever since. The pictures are such wonderful reminders of all the colors, smells and sounds of lovely North Africa … especially Essouria (one of my fave spots) with their rocky coasts … and the seafood! thanks for sharing, I’ll be back. P.s. your jan. 22 entry of djemma square made me laugh so much, I am a canadian-filipina, and the stall holders had no idea what to say to me – “konichiwa” they would call, and when I shook my head no, they said, “please, please, tell us where you are from” !!

Hello Elizabeth,
I have been away at some meetings, and do hope to see you before your departure to this lovely house.

If not, I wish you a beautiful stay in the place with the many tones of pink. And I also wish that we will be able to stay in contact as you take more incredible pictures, renew acquaintance with your cats, and let the visual feast begin.

I think the mysterious door needs brightening up, it does look rather sad. I hope you had a good time over here in the UK. x
