Mellah Market - continued

The usual walk to the market..........

the back way down derb Djedid where I come upon a cart with cool designs...........

Then through a slightly busier part of town.
I cross the road by the Bahia Palace and get stuck behind a caleche..............

So many vegetables to choose from............

Carrots and cauliflowers...........

Here I usually buy rocket/arugala.........but the stall-holder has ten different kinds of lettuce and very , very tiny artichokes.

These roosters were tied on to the back of a bicycle.
They did not look very happy..........for which I can't blame them.
A man took them away almost immediately.

This languid young lovely is about to have kittens.
The market is a good place to have them since there are butcher shops and fish stalls aplenty.

Though it is a covered market, light pierces the roof and falls upon flowers.........

........and the ever- present mopeds.

Hello from another Elizabeth. What lovely photos, it made me feel I was there in the town with you. Markets here in France have a charm too, but perhaps not so exotic!

It must be a great place to be if you are a photograhper, painter or just someone that likes colourful and interesting everyday scenes.
Do you paint / sketch?

That first photo looks like you arranged the placement of the cart yourself. Just perfect. Absolutely perfect!

That horse-drawn cart is green in more ways than one!

As always, you have caught some unusual and unique sights, as well as the wonderful market stalls with their colorful produce, and even cats!

This reminds me so much of Indonesian markets or 'pasar'. I hope this one smells better than those did.

I would be happy to tell your daughter what I know of Malaysia. There is also a link on my blog list for m.kate who lives in Kuala Lumpur.

the light coming through and hitting the flowers is a lovely photo, Ellizabeth. really captures that feeling of the market - not really indoors, not really outdoors ... but just so different than the sanitized light of the north american experience (unless of course you frequent farmer's markets!)

I love markets. When I lived in Holland I lived right in the middle of the town centre for about 30 years and the market in front of our house every thursday morningis deeply engrained in my mind. What a variety of vegatables. Looks great.

Fantastic photos. The fruit and vegetables on those stalls look so fresh. This is a great place to buy them. x

To have such a beautiful market nearby. To buy fresh vegetables and fruits each day. Hope kitty is safe in her vulnerable state. Thanks for sharing. Suki
