Floor to ceiling books - rather slim on the whole with very brightly colored bindings - in a very small shop near the Mousassine mosque which is a cave of knowledge.

Depressing to to realise that I wouldn't be able to read one of them.
They also sell pens and note books.
The ladder reminds me of old private libraries in England - but lots of shops here have ladders because they store things very high up.

You have made me curious. How does one get books written in English in Morocco? While I was there I saw French and Arabic, but sadly no English.
Lovely photo! Books are my obsession (along with Morocco!) Sometimes the spines of the books in a collection will have a lovely calligraphic pattern, I think I have a photo taken in Fez ages ago of an example of what I mean!
I've just been to the Amazon US site and seen this new gadget of theirs, the Kindle: to read books on a small hand-held screen: what a world of difference with these (and all) books!

You are quite right, it is difficult.
There is a little cafe in Marrakech called Cafe du Livre where there is a small selection.
We can send off via Amazon but it takes ages, we can beg our friends to bring them from England and the US.
However, this makes us more careful readers since we can't just replenish the supply at will.
We borrow......we make do........

When we lived in Indonesia, we hoarded our English language books. We'd bring them in suitcases and bags, borrow from others. One guest house had a library and we would spend the whole time there reading.
I have to go just to see all those books. How wonderful.
OH MY GOSH!!!!!! I'm coming. And when you take me to this shop you can just leave me there for a few days. Heaven!

I love this bookshop, even if I can't read the books written in Arabic. It looks like the book shop has a nice feeling to it. ;-)
